Heat shielding in the summer with isofloc

Thermal insulation in the summer

Thermal insulation with isofloc in the summer – as confirmed by developers – is the right choice for roof spaces / lofts / attic extensions. When insulated with isofloc the roof/loft area stays comfortably cool in the summer. Users have reported that their rooms were more than 5°C cooler than conventionally constructed adjacent rooms – and that is without the need for any other technical aids.

In summer, the day and night temperature differences can be very great. Rooms under the roof are especially prone to over-heating due to the large expanse of the roof’s surface. If the surface of the roof reaches a temperature of 70°C, the transmission of the heat to rooms occupied by the residents must be restricted. The goal of the summertime heat shielding is to achieve comfortable and stable temperatures.

The protective effects of particular building components are calculated on the basis of changing thermal conductivity processes over time. Apart from the thermal conductivity, the thermal storage capacity, the density of the building material and the order in which the various building component layers are installed also play an important role.  The k-value (U-value) alone is not sufficient for such calculations and evaluations.

A high thermal storage capacity and a low coefficient of thermal conductivity

To provide a good level of summertime heat-shielding,

an insulation material has to fulfil these criteria.
Insulation materials offering an optimal, year-round level of thermal protection should exhibit low thermal- and temperature coefficients and at the same time have a high installed density and high thermal retention capacity. Products produced from wood-based raw materials fulfil these criteria. Wood has a high specific thermal capacity which is about two and a half times greater than that of silicate materials (glass). Common building materials such as solid timber, wood-based boards but also wood-fibre boards and isofloc cellulose insulation are therefore ideally suited in providing thermal protection in the summer.

Variations in the thermal storage/retention

Not all products offer the same level of summertime heat-shielding

If one considers the commonplace insulation materials within the thermal conductivity group 040, it can be seen that they vary greatly in their thermal storage characteristics and therefore in their effectiveness in shielding against heat in the summertime. The bar chart shown helps to illustrate these differences. It shows how much thermal energy the various insulation materials can store.

Protection against the cold in winter and a comfortable, cool, interior in the summer is guaranteed using isofloc – even with relatively thin insulation layer depths.

isofloc cellulose insulation possesses the same positive characteristics found in natural wood and due to its excellent thermal storage capacity ensures a pleasant room climate in the summer.

Saving CO2

We are working and manufacturing without CO2- emission, our energy is coming from water power. Additionally isofloc is from the beginning the insulation with the least amount of imbodied energy.
